SPL’s Guide to running a PLC

By Mike Carioscio

As the SPL you need to set a good example by:

Wearing the appropriate uniform (Class B is acceptable at PLC)

Showing up on time

Conducting yourself according to the Scout Oath and Law

  1. Arrive 15 minutes before the start of the meeting and make copies of the agenda for the PLC.
  2. At the start of the meeting have the Scribe (appoint one if one isn’t present) write the agenda on the board.
  3. Take attendance – A Scout can only have one role.  He can’t be both the QM and the PL of a Patrol.  Have him decide on his role and mark the other role as absent.
  4. Run the meeting
  5. Keep it on Track / Stick to the Timetable / You should ask someone to be timekeeper and make sure you stick to the agenda
  6. End on time

Sample Agenda for Meeting

1. Stop/Start/Continue – 15 minutes
2. Review up-coming month’s Meeting Plans – 5 minutes
3. Plan – all meetings until the next PLC; Plan all Campouts until the next PLC – 40 minutes
