Canoe Trip – Chuck Strand

Outfitters that Chuck is working with are New Country Outfitters.
The trip would stay on the MN side of the Boundary Waters to avoid Passport issues.
August 2 – Depart.
August 3 -7 – Canoe Trip.
August 8 – Return to base camp.
August 9 – Return.
Cost $54 per day – inclusive.
Practice in Yorkville, IL.
Money from Scouts needed by first of June.

Next Steps…

Chuck/Donna get approval from Council.
Determine adult and Scout participation.
Camperships for this trip was recommended.

Adult Training – Mike C.

Mike requested a min. year commitment from current leaders; Jeff W., Charlie T., Rob M., Kevin M., Bob C., Bruce H. and Datu R.
Adult leaders should be fully trained. This requires completing three BSA Leader Training courses, including Outdoor Leadership Skills. Marc W. will follow this topic.
Youth Protection Training needs to be updated every two years.

Troop Structure

It was agreed that all Scouts need to continually advised on their positions and responsibilities in the Troop.
Adult leaders need to promote leadership positions with the Scouts regularly.

Tee-Shirts

Charlie again promised to get prices for Shin-Go-Beek tee-shirts and fleece jackets for the adults. Mike expressed doubt.

1. Older Scout Activities – Kevin, Chuck, and Bob
We determined that we would use a troop meeting to solicit ideas from the older boys on what skills they want to learn or what they wish to do during this time. We will work this into one of the up-coming meetings.

2. Patrol reports – ASMs for respective patrols
Charlie led the discussion about a number of boys who need some special attention.

3. New Troop Software – Jeff
Jeff did a GREAT job reviewing the new Troop Software with the ASMs. He will be emailing out individual passwords to the ASMs present at the meeting.

4. Review of Calendar – Mike
Mike reviewed the up-coming calendar. Sue O’Neil and Charlie will work on an basic compass/orienteering outing for the Jaguars and Dragons before the Hoover campout. Mike also suggested the week between Christmas and New Years as a good time to schedule outings for Merit Badges. We have Kevin planning an outing for Chemistry. Rob would like to plan and outing for Forrestry. There is an outing required for Personal Management. We should coordinate the dates to assure boys who are taking making badges can attend these outings.

5. Other topics – all
Diane is proposing a Life-to-Eagle session either as part of a Troop meeting or as a separate meeting. It would be for all of the Life Scouts in the troop (19!) and their parents.

Steve – thanks for jumping in when I went brain dead at the beginning of the meeting. What i will do differently next time is assign patrols to the various groups ahead of the meeting so we know what we are doing going into it.

I will be able to come out on Saturday after work. At this point just figure on me, only. We are still working out the boys schedule of weekends.

Additionally, are there specifics to the Webelos campout yet? Bruce from Lincoln emailed me and wanted some specfics.

It would be good for him to have so he can “sell” it to his Webelos.
