Week between Christmas and New Years

December 27, 2007 by Mike Carioscio

Just a reminder that the week between Christmas and New Year’s (that’s this week!) is a great week to organize Merit Badge outings.

Kudos to Kevin McQuade who has organized a Chemistry Merit Badge Outing on Thursday.

Anyone else?

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you! We REALLY appreciate the work you do on behalf of the boys.

Looking forward to a GREAT 08!

New Advancement Requirements as of Jan 1, 08

December 27, 2007 by Mike Carioscio

New Boy Scout rank requirements effective January 1, 2008

The National Youth Protection Committee recommended additions to Boy Scout rank requirements that were approved and will become effective January 1, 2008. These changes will help us advance the importance of Youth Protection training beyond the initial Boy Scout joining requirements, and keep youth informed and actively engaged in understanding the key elements of personal safety and protection.

The changes will be represented in the 2008 Boy Scout Requirements book and the revised ninth printing of the 11th edition of the Boy Scout Handbook.

Tenderfoot Rank

Revised requirement 9:

Explain the importance of the buddy system as it relates to your personal safety on outings and in your neighborhood. Describe what a bully is and how you should respond to one.

Second Class Rank

New requirement 8b:

Explain the three R’s of personal safety and protection.

First Class Rank

New requirement 12:

Describe the three things you should avoid doing related to use of the Internet. Describe a cyberbully and how you should respond to one.

ASM Meeting 10/6/07

October 7, 2007 by Mike Carioscio

Attendance:  Jeff Wood, Kevin McQuade, Terry Tincher, Charlie Thompson, Mike Carioscio

ASM Meeting 10/6/07 - Agenda

1. Review Calendar -we reviewed the calendar and discussed the up-coming meetings.  We still have a need to develop a program for the boys of First Class rank and above who are not taking merit badges.  Kevin, Bob, and Chuck agreed to work on this at our last meeting.

2. Review Troop Org Chart - we discussed the organization chart and the various roles the boys have been assigned.  There is still a need for Den Chiefs if any of the boys who need a troop position are interested.

3. Review Adult Assignments - we also discussed the roles the adults need to play to support the youth leadership.  We need to make sure that all adults review their respective roles and let me know if they have any questions regarding their responsibilities.

4. JLT - continued - In the up-coming meetings we are asking the adult leaders to talk to their assigned youth leaders about the roles and responsibilities of their troop office.

5. Review PLC Agenda - we discussed the agenda

6. New Scouts - we discussed the policy we are forming for accepting new Scouts into the Troop.  At his time, our position is not to accept Scouts who are ranked at First Class or higher.  This is not an absolute rule, and it is until we guide our existing Scouts at First Class and above through Eagle rank.  For Scouts wishing to join our Troop of a rank less than First Class, we will consider accepting them if we have the appropriate parental involvement.

7. Philmont - we did not get the Philmont slot as we did not follow up in time.  I’ve asked Chuck Strand to follow-up with Diane to see what other 08 possibilities exist.

8. ASMs at Meetings - Jeff Wood has created a sign-up sheet so we know which Scoutmasters will be present at which meetings.  Please reply to him with your availability.  Thanks!

9. Troop Software - we are purchasing a new Troop Software package that will give us the ability to have the ability to access the system via the Internet.  We have to go through a data entry task to get the Troop information into the new system.  More updates to follow.

10. Communications - we are trying out different communications methods, like this Blog.  please try them out and give me your feedback.

Update on Friday’s Meeting - No Meeting on Family Life MB

September 26, 2007 by Mike Carioscio

Here is an email from Diane regarding the rescheduling of that meeting.

—————————————————————–

The meeting for Family Life which was scheduled for this Friday is being moved to Oct 3rd from 7-7:30.

So that means:

    No meeting this Friday 9/28

Come early to the 10/3 troop meeting and be prepared to discuss your progress!

For all of you who have been working so diligently on your family life merit badge, this will be your opportunity to report on your 90 days of chores and also discuss your family project.

For those of you who have nothing to report, you have 9 days to prepare!

Good luck - and thanks to the counselors for doing this for the boys!

 —————————————————————————————-

So at this point, we are trying to confirm whether we will have a very short testing session with the Jaguars so that can begin their 30 days of testing for the Tenderfoot fitness requirement.

Thanks,

Mike
